Everlane
Everlane’s entire philosophy is in line with my philosophy on ethical basics. They design their clothes to last, both in terms of quality and style. They are true classics. They also strive for transparency in all areas of production, visiting factories regularly, building relationships, and evaluating them for compliance. They are honest about what the cost to produce, from materials to labor, and price their clothing fairly ($25 for a tee, yes please!). Aside from the plastic that their apparel is shipped in (unfortunately, there are laws that insist they bag certain garments), they meet my standards of ethical style almost perfectly. I am a huge fan of their tees, tanks, and camis, and blouses. Oh! And their jeans! I love these jeans! I think I could build my entire wardrobe at Everlane alone.
Groceries Apparel
Back when F:S was strictly an online boutique, Groceries was our number one seller. One look at their tees, tanks, and sweatshirts and it is obvious why. Their tees quickly became part of my (and our customers’) uniform. From basics to elevated basics, everything is perfectly ethical and perfectly sustainable. They manufacture everything in their own factory in downtown LA, and are so proud of the conditions that they welcome visitors. Materials include recycled plastic, organic cotton (grown in the US!), eucalyptus tencel, and hemp. Everything is garment dyed, sometimes by hand and with vegetable dyes. Sustainability is ingrained in every aspect of their production. And, everything is reasonably priced, super soft, and uniform-ready!
