Ethical Style Resolutions, and Ways to Get There (a Series)
I am not a big New Year’s Resolutions person anymore. I spent years making the same resolutions – drink more water, make better decision (oh, my twenties…), leave the country at least once, swear less – you know the drill.
Making this year more conscious, with more ethical style than last year has topped my list every year for the past decade or so. And, I have usually succeeded in at least making small amounts of progress.
I also like to pick a focus each year. This year, my focus is to get my bathroom routine as close to zero-waste as I can.
If this is your year to start on your ethical style journey or up your commitment, this is the series for you. I have put together a few ethical style resolutions, some simple, some not as easy, along with tips and resources to help out. Because we all have different values, goals, budgets, and priorities, I have divided this series into several different sections: Minimalism, Ethical Purchasing, Ethical Beauty, and Ethical style at home.
The key is to get started (or keep making progress), take it at the speed that works for you, and forgive yourself if that top from Forever 21 called out so loudly that you had to buy it. No one is perfect.
And yes, I did eventually start making better decisions, although it took a lot longer than it should have :).
Looking for inspiration to get started? Come back here every week for the first few weeks of the new year for some ideas.
And, if you are looking to make just one resolution this year, make it to stop buying and wearing fast fashion. This one thing can have the biggest impact on the environment and the people working in the fashion industry.
First up, my big list of ethical style resolutions!
Then, take a look at my sustainability focus for 2019 and years past.
