It is the last day of Fashion Revolution Week. One of the most important things we can do to make fashion more ethical to buy higher quality clothing and accessories, love them, and make them last, for at least 30 wears. To celebrate the end of the week, here is my Fashion Revolution Love Story:
Dear My Vintage Western Belt,
I’ve talked about you before, remember? So, I think you know how much I love you. But you can never profess your love too much, so I will remind you.
Decades ago (are we really that old? Well, you more so than me, but, yes, we are!), I was visiting my friend Rachel, and needed a belt. Little did I know, I needed you. It was her mother’s. I spent the entire evening plotting how I was going to convince her to let me have it. I didn’t end up saying a word, she gave it to me the next morning. As your third owner, I think you’ve found your forever home.
I had never owned anything so perfectly worn before. You make my jeans and tees so much more interesting. You make my silk shirts just the right amount of casual. You make everything a little more boho. I have lent you to friends, women and men alike, and everyone appreciates your beauty and character.
This photo, from my first declaration of love, feels dated. I am a little embarrassed to post it, but it shows you perfectly. And, it shows my continued love for you.
My body has changed (babies will do that!), and styles have changed, as they do. My jeans sit much higher these days, so I no longer wear you slung low, just above my hips. You are too big for the high wasted jeans I wear now, but the day will come when waste lines fall and you fit perfect.
For now, I still picture Ed and Anne, wearing you, cruising around San Francisco, in their Bug, going to concerts and sitting in parks, young and having a great time. You remind me of my younger years, doing the same, in the same city. We have a lot of great memories don’t we?
Love,
Jess
